Donald Brink

Last week I had the chance to photograph a very interesting guy doing crazy things with surfboard design.  His name is Donald Brink out of San Clemente/Dana Point and I was photographing him for a piece in Modern Luxury Orange County magazine spotlighting a list of innovators living in Orange County.  Donald is a really friendly character and I have never seen surfboards like these.  One has wierdly shaped fins, the other has a off-center tail all based on the riders' stance and how they surf.  I had a great time on the shoot and want to order one of his designs as soon as possible.  You can check out his stuff at www.brinksurf.com

So, I usually shoot food and environmental portraits for work which leaves me with little time to do any personal work or organize my own portfolio shoots.  I decided to get it together and start making time for these kind of things.  My portfolio is definitely lacking in fashion/lifestyle photographs and I need to really boost that part of it up.  I remembered that I shot with a great model, Margaux a few years back so I was lucky enough to get in contact with her and we organized our own shoot.  There has been a location that I drive by every few days.  It's a canyon that was burned in the fire a year and half ago and left a group of burnt trees that make for a great backdrop.  Got some great results.  Please let me know what you think.

So, since I've started this blog I've pretty much only put up photos that I've shot on the job.  So i decided to change it up a bit a post some photos that may or may not turn into a personal project.  I've always been a big fan on graphics and signage and whenever I'm driving around I notice business signs that stand out for their creativity or their style, so why not photograph them.

Lifestyle Shoot in Santa Ana

Last week I was able to shoot in a great location, Old Town, Santa Ana in Orange County.  It's really a great spot for photography. The Buildings are of the Art Decco and 50's era so lots of great areas for shooting.  Caroline, who was modeling that day, did an incredible job despite the 100 degree heat.  Thanks Caroline for being a trooper:)!
